An Engagement Session with Purple Walls + Doughnuts

When Vania + Christine of Simply Bloom Photography sent me their latest engagement session, I couldn't wait to see what they captured this time! This session really reminded what the difference between a good photographer is and a great photographer. Simply Bloom always tries to really capture the personalities of the couple in their sessions - or stories as I like to think of them. For Ashley and Jeff, they decided to recreate their first date! A bit about their first date from Ashley,

We had the worst/best first date. Everything went wrong (It poured, we got pulled over, he tried to carry me to the door but slipped and fell and threw me in the mud) and yet we laughed the whole time and it was still the best date I had ever been on! We started out the night by getting doughnuts and coffee at Krispy Creme and just drove around down town talking and looking at the old houses.

I think Vania + Christine captured it beautifully. What a great way to always remember how it all started! Thanks so much for sharing your work again with us! Oh, and yes, this is two days in a row with posts about doughnuts!

Real Wedding: Kelli + Toby's Vintage Parisian Wedding

The talented Brooke from Brookelyn Photography sent me this charming wedding to share with you guys today. The ceremony and reception took place at a beautiful location (just wait until you see the photos!) - Treehouse Point/Issaquah, in Washington. From Brooke, The event was a small party of the couple's family and friends. The wedding colors were light pink and gray. The couple wanted the event to have a simple, vintage, parisian feel. The venue was so beautiful without a lot of decor so the hints of light pink and gray were perfect accents. A lot of the items purchased for the wedding were either local or purchased from Etsy.

(from Brooke) Toby and Kelli met at a restaurant while Kelli was finishing her senior year at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. she was a server and he was working in the kitchen. Their first date was camping and a Bjork concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado! Kelli was accepted into the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California and Toby made the move with her. Following graduate school, the couple moved to the magnolia neighborhood of seattle, where they currently reside.

J. Mendel Dresses

Ever since I saw that gorgeous dress Kate Walsh wore to the Emmy's last Sunday, I had to know more about the designer - J. Mendel. And, wow, check out these beautiful dresses from the Spring 2010 Collection. So utterly romantic. I think any of these would make a beautiful wedding dress - the yellow or peach could be a fun rehearsal dinner dress :)

Real Wedding: Emilie + Russell's San Francisco Wedding

I've been a fan of JL photografia for awhile now, so I'm excited to share some of their work on the site today. Janet and Lisa are the talented ladies behind JL photografia, and they sent me a beautiful wedding they photographed in San Francisco. The ceremony took place at the Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden and the reception was held at an amazingly chic urban setting, varnish. I love Emilie's pop of green on her dress and her amazing hair piece (made by a local designer). You can really see the love between Emilie + Russell in the portraits Janet and Lisa captured after the wedding. Thanks so much ladies for sending me these photos!

Inspiration from the Emmy's

Yesterday I was watching the Emmy Red Carpet Show - the best part in my opinion! I love seeing what everyone is wearing, their hair, makeup, jewelry - love it. And it's a great place to get idea for your wedding day :) My favorite dress of the evening was Mila Kunis. She wore a tea-length dress by Monique Lhuillier. Someone described it as " vintage ballerina-chic." Love it. And the shoes! So perfect and very different from everyone else. Some of my other favorites are below.

Love the way these dresses flow. Leighton Meester looked like a Greek deity in her layered Bottega Veneta gown. I love Lindsay Price's shade of plum and Kate Walsh's gorgeous gray J.Mendel Grecian-inspired gown. The detail in the draping with the sweetheart bustline — so romantic!

Some of my favorite hair and make-up looks. Love Jennifer Love Hewitt's hair - hippie chic at it's best!

Friday Love Song : Jack Johnson & Buena Vista Social Club - Better Together

I've really been loving the beach wedding I featured this week and I think this song would be perfect for it - a first dance, cocktail hour, even during the ceremony. The lyrics are so perfect for your wedding day and combined with Buena Vista Social Club, it has the perfect fun beachy vibe. It's from the Rhythms del Mundo collection. If you're not familiar with them, they combine talented Cuban musicians with popular artists and all the proceeds from their album sales are used to raise awareness and funds for climate crisis projects and natural disaster relief. Other artist they have featured include U2, Killers, Editors, One Republic, Coldplay and more. How perfect would a bunch of these songs be for a perfect beachy cocktail hour? Happy Friday!

Real Wedding: Debi + Dave's Beautiful Beach Wedding

I love the simplicity of this beach wedding. The beautiful bouquet, the bride's hair and gorgeous dress, the groom's attire (with flip flops!), the bridesmaid's dress, and the sign welcoming guests to the wedding - and to snuggle up with a blanket and beer! - um, perfect! This is totally my type of wedding. Nothing is over the top, just pure and simple beauty here. This wedding was photographed by the talented Allison C Photography and took place at the beautiful Carmel-by-the-Sea with the reception following at the Carmel Valley Ranch.
